1968 testing at Goodwood: Alan Mann’s Ford F3L being checked for size in the pits by Graham Hill with Frank Gardner and Brian Redman looking on.  Colin Chapman had agreed to allow Hill and Jim Clark to race this car at Brands in the BOAC 500.  Graham Hill was therefore down at Goodwood to check out the car and also to report his findings to Clark who was, by then, residing in Switzerland and could only spend a limited amount of time in the UK.  Chapman would of course subsequently change his mind and Clark would go to Hockenheim instead of Brands for that fateful F2 race………

About Peter Robinson

Peter Robinson is a life long motor sport enthusiast dating back to the early 1960s. In the late sixties he was a very active rally enthusiast and subsequently took part in his first Motoring News rally in 1970. After a break of many years he re-entered the sport in Historic stage rallies, firstly with a Renault Alpine and then a Lotus Cortina. Both of these were 1965 cars and with the latter he won Class awards and attained top ten results in both UK and Belgian rallies. In 2008 he released his firstbook on rallying, Memory Lanes (a history of the 1970 to 1973 Motoring News Rally Championship) and this year will release a further book on the subject, Memory Lanes.......revisited.
