The Rallye du Var takes place in the hills behind Ste Maxime and St Tropez in the south of France. This year weather conditions were sunny and dry with temperatures around 20C before sunset. Around 40kms of stages were run on Friday 25th November with some 100kms on Saturday and then a further 75kms on the Sunday morning. The vast entry was headed by the winner of the Welsh Rally GB, J-M Latvala along with O. Tanak in another Fiesta, both tyre testing on Ford’s last allowable four days before the Monte in January. Sarrazin was in a Peugeot 307 WRC whilst Campana was in the Mini Cooper WRC Alongside the WRC class there were those for Super 2000, GT+, N4, R3, R2 and R1 with many of these competitors fighting for their final placings in their regional and French Championships. There was also a good historic entry of cars ranging from the ubiquitous 911s and Escorts to the sublime Lancia 037 s and Alpines.

The WRC crews finished in the following order: Latvala, Sarrazin, Tanak, Campana, Buffier and Branson (Ford, Peugeot, Ford, Mini Cooper, Peugeot and Subaru respectively).

All of the images from the Rallye du Var are available FOC to download if you so wish . To see the full image it is best to click on the thumb nail and then copy/paste the larger image. If you prefer a better resolution image without the large Photohistoric banner, then email info@photohistoric.com stating an email address that you wish to receive it on and it will be sent to you – again, no charge.

The photographs include pretty well all of the Historics running ahead of the field and the majority of the moderns.

Memory Lanes ….revisited.

The history of the 1970 – 1973 Motoring News Rally Championship.

Exclusive to Photohistoric.com:

The hardback version of this new book as well as a “collector’s” cloth-backed version are now available to order from within this web-site. Typically orders are fulfilled within 3 days of an order being placed..

These versions will NOT be available through retail outlets nor through sites such as Amazon.

The hardback version is supplied in a similar format to that of the original Memory Lanes whilst the new cloth-backed version comes in blue with silver lettering and a full colour, paper, slip-over dust jacket. Both versions now use a more traditional sewn binding technique, unlike the original book and, as a consequence, both are of enhanced quality.

To ORDER either version of Memory Lanes ….revisited or to read more details on the content of this title click on THE BOOK on the web site banner above.

PLEASE NOTE: all photographs accredited to Ferret Fotographics from within Memory Lanes ….revisited are available for purchase in digital format from within this web-site.

In addition the paperback version of Memory Lanes …revisited is now on sale in High Street bookshops at the recommended price of £33. However only this paperback version is available through these retail outlets (ie: not the hardback or cloth-bound versions). The title is also for sale on several book retailing internet sites such as Amazon and EBay, sometimes at an inflated price. Please be aware that, again, this is the paperback version only. If in doubt, ask!

Welcome to the latest version of Photohistoric.com. The previous site had been around far too long and it’s design was such that any changes were very difficult to accomplish. In the main the contents of this site are similar to before but will now be added to as soon as is possible. There will be an increased number of “old” black and white motor sport images added over the coming weeks and months as well as a new colour section covering sailing and other “interesting” sports.

One significant difference between the old and the new is that all pictures purchased will now take the form of a digital download of the original scanned negative. This has come about because of the increased cost and rapid decline in the availability of true hand printing of black and white negatives. Indeed most photo-production now seems to be based on scanned images to reduce end-product cost. Receiving an image in digital format gives purchasers the ability to print to the size and format they require. However, please read the new terms and conditions before making any such purchase.

Most of the new content is yet to be put up on the site as I have been concentrating on the publishing and forthcoming release of a replacement for my previous book, Memory Lanes.

Please click on THE BOOK above to read the background to this new title.
